Latin and Greek are two classical languages that individuals can study online through universities that utilize an open courseware system. Topics addressed include the connection between English and Latin and the study of the Greek alphabet.

Utah State University

A Latin class for beginner students is available for download from this university. The course teaches on the two types of Latin: Vulgar Latin, which was the general language of the people and Classical Latin that was spoken in formal prose and poetry. The course also touches on the influence of the Roman Empire and Catholic Church on the use of the language.

Open University

OpenLearn offers a course that covers classic Greek and another on classical Latin. Both courses are meant for students with no previous knowledge of the language. Each course runs for 10-hours.
