Why earn an Electronics Technician diploma?

A knowledge of electronics can take you many places, and will allow you to find work any place electronic devices are used - or misused, as you will learn all of the necessary skills to repair (as well as to assemble) such devices. In less than two years you can earn a diploma that will gain you entry to this exciting and varied career field.

Career possibilities

Such a diploma, once earned, will allow you to find a job in the electronics industry. You could work with computers as a computer maintenance technician. You could also work in the medical field, helping to assemble, troubleshoot, or repair medical electronics. You could work in the communications industry, or perhaps with consumer electronics.

Occupational outlook

Job growth in the electronics repair industry is expected to be slow (8% or under) through the year 2014 according to the 2006 Occupational Outlook Handbook (www.BLS.gov). This slow growth is due to increased efficiency in the industry, with electronics becoming easier to repair. More and more types of electronic devices and parts are also being made so cheaply as to be considered disposable, which also limits job opportunities. Trained and skilled electronics technicians should still have no trouble finding employment, however, which is all the more reason to pursue your diploma in this area.

Salary information

The field of electronics repair is a particularly lucrative one - the 2006 Occupational Outlook Handbook (www.BLS.gov) reports median wages of up to $26.37 per hour, depending on industry.
