Free Atmospheric Science Courses
A range of topics such as those dealing with meteorology and radiation in the atmosphere are available for online study through Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These classes include assignments, and some involve projects. All courses are accompanied with downloadable course materials.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Most atmospheric science classes available through this university's OpenCourseWare are at the graduate level. One undergrad class is offered that provides an intro to radon physics, radiation biology and geology. This class is designed so that students gain hands-on experience in learning how to measure radon.
A graduate course that deals with the physics of atmospheric radiation allows students to explore remote sensing and the use of computer codes. Other graduate study gives students an understanding of topics like operational ocean and atmosphere forecasting, circulation models and theories, internal gravity waves, Rossby waves, tropical cyclones and intraseasonal oscillations.
- Dynamics of the Atmosphere
- Radon Research in Multidisciplines: A Review
- Tropical Meteorology
- General Circulation of the Earth's Atmosphere
- Atmospheric Radiation
- Prediction and Predictability in the Atmosphere and Ocean
