Free French Language Courses
Both novice and expert French speakers can sign up for free French language courses available at two respected universities. In addition to teaching the language, classes provide instruction on French culture.
Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)
This university's Open Learning Initiative offers two French courses that include video demonstrations from professional French-speaking actors. Each course is broken down into 15 lessons and runs for 6-8 weeks.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Individuals who want to learn more about French language and culture can find two introductory and one intermediate class for free on MIT's OpenCourseWare. The intro courses are designed for students who are fluent in French, and one is conducted entirely in French. The intermediate class covers concepts and vocabulary acquisition.
