Free Robotics Engineering Courses
A number of free classes on building robotic systems are available for study through through MIT's OpenCourseWare. Classes offered are designed to be hands-on in nature, though no teachers will look at students' work and credits aren't awarded. However, students can still learn concepts in robotics design by reading lectures notes and downloading reading materials.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Typical hands-on work that students would normally complete in MIT's robotic engineering courses include designing, building and programming their own robot, though this kind of work is voluntary in these free courses. Optional course materials can help students learn how to create autonomous systems and how to write a player program for Robocraft (a computer game).
