University of Kentucky
The University of Kentucky was created as a land grant institution in 1865 in the community of Lexington, KY, and it continues to hold to that tradition of public education. With 19,292 undergraduate students and over 200 majors, the university has grown to receive the ranking of #122 on US News and World Report's list of America's Best Colleges. The UK Chandler Medical Center houses one of only two major trauma centers in the state and often takes care of the most injured and critically ill patients in the region. There are 15 libraries on campus, including a federal depository with life sciences, humanities and social sciences collections.
University of Louisville
In 1846, after over a dozen years of reorganization and limited funding, the University of Louisville was officially founded in the city it is named for. Created with an emphasis on medical education, the university has grown to offer 170 fields of study to its 14,995 undergraduate students. Students can begin their work at Louisville by earning an associate's degree and continue studying until they earn a graduate or professional diploma. Its medical center is known for a number of medical firsts, and the university has several successful athletics program.
Western Kentucky University
Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, located just 65 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. The university was founded in the lovely hills in the western part of the state in 1906 and is often lauded as having one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. Western Kentucky has a prominent reputation for world-class research, and the Ogden College of Engineering and Science wins many national research awards every year. There are currently 88 academic majors at the university and 16,063 undergraduate students.
Eastern Kentucky University
Founded in 1906, Eastern Kentucky University has the prominence of a large research institution, with the smaller classes that students often prefer. The university has an undergraduate enrollment of 13,623 students at its Richmond, Kentucky campus; and students tailor their degree plan from one of the 168 programs. Many non-traditional students find that Eastern Kentucky's evening and weekend classes work well for those who need to balance college with other life responsibilities. It has five colleges -- College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Technology, College of Health Sciences, College of Education and College of Justice and Safety.
Northern Kentucky University
Northern Kentucky University is located just southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio and currently has 12,188 undergraduate students. Its location within the Greater Cincinnati area means that students often participate in local internships at research facilities that are found in a major metropolitan area. The university began to educate students in 1968 as a public institution, and has grown considerably over the years to offer dozens of majors within several independent colleges. It is home to colleges in arts and science, business, human services and education, informatics, nursing and law.
