Tulane University
Founded in 1834, Tulane has become one of the most selective and prestigious private universities in the country. The university has 6,491 undergraduate students who are active in the institution's numerous research activities. Louisiana State University
Louisiana State University held its first commencement in 1869 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the heart of Cajun country. The university has since grown to offer almost 200 degrees in a wide variety of disciplines. Currently, 24,583 undergraduate students are enrolled at LSU, many of whom study at the university's renowned colleges of engineering and veterinary medicine and marine institute. It is one out of 21 universities within the U.S. to hold space-, sea- and land-grant status.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette was founded in 1900 as the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, and went through several name changes before its final founding in 1999 with its current name. The university offers 80 undergraduate majors to its 14,923 undergraduate students and has a unique focus on the French-based culture of south Louisiana. Much of UL's research is based on preserving the wetlands of Louisiana as industry and population continues to strain this precious resource.
Southeastern Louisiana University
Since its founding in 1925, Southeastern Louisiana University has focused on providing an outstanding educational value for its students, who come not only from the local area but also from many foreign countries. The university currently offers 52 majors to its 13,544 undergraduate students and has a reputation for small classes taught by faculty, not graduate students. This beautiful, quintessential college town welcomes the 9,000 undergraduate students who come to study at world-renowned Louisiana Tech every year. LTU is a selective institution that provides a challenging, yet supportive atmosphere for its students. While its focus is on the natural and applied sciences, the institution offers many other majors and a solid liberal arts education. It awards semester hours, but operates on the quarter calendar. Most classes are 20 minutes longer and an undergraduate student is considered full-time if taking a minimum of eight hours of class time.
