Dartmouth College
With an undergraduate enrollment of 4,100, Dartmouth College is the smallest university within the Ivy League. The institution was founded in 1769 and continues to offer small, intense classroom settings for its students in a gorgeous environment. Located in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth is found two hours north of Boston, providing a real collegial atmosphere for students and faculty. Undergraduate students have a wide range of liberal arts, business and engineering disciplines to choose from at this renowned university, and the graduate program in business management is among the best in the world. University of New Hampshire
The University of New Hampshire was founded in 1866 as a public institution and is unique in that it holds land-, sea- and space-grants. The main campus is located in Durham, which is in southern New Hampshire along the coast. There are currently 11,622 undergraduate students enrolled at the University of New Hampshire, in one of more than 100 major fields of study. Although many students at the institution wait to declare a major, one of the most popular departments is kinesiology. The choices are all excellent, as the university is currently ranked #108 by U.S. News and World Report.
Southern New Hampshire University
Formerly known as New Hampshire College, Southern New Hampshire University was founded in 1932. The university has undergone many changes throughout the years, but continues to keep its focus on business technology. The financial services department is one of the more prestigious in the nation, with a state of the art center that was sponsored by several large corporations. Southern New Hampshire has an undergraduate enrollment of 1,900, but it also has a large adult enrollment as nontraditional students take advantage of the available business education.
Plymouth State University
Plymouth State University achieved its designation as a comprehensive state university in 2003, over a century after it was founded in 1871. This school in western New Hampshire has grown to include an undergraduate enrollment of 4,192 students and offers 40 different major fields of study. One of its more renowned academic departments is meteorology, which is generally considered one of the best departments in the eastern United States. The natural sciences department is beginning to receive its own recognition, especially since the creation of the Center for the Environment.
Keene State College
Keene, New Hampshire is located in the far southwestern corner of the state and is the home to Keene State College. Established in 1909, the school now has 4,081 undergraduate students who have the opportunity to choose from 40 major fields of study. KSC is a vital part of the community, and makes up roughly 1/4 of the population of the town. Many Keene students study education, as the department is considered one of the best in the state and hosts annual seminars in children's literature.
