West Virginia University is a public educational institution and was founded in 1867. West Virginia University in Morgantown has an undergraduate student population of 21,145. Unfortunately, Marshall University will be forever remembered for the tragic 1970 airplane crash that resulted in the loss of 37 Marshall University football players. This small private university originally began as a community college.
