American Career College is a private, for-profit educational institution with locations in Orange County, Los Angeles and Inland Empire. The college specializes in career-oriented health programs in various medical fields.

General Information about American Career College

Established in 1978 as the American College of Optics, American Career College has expanded its course offerings to include respiratory therapy, vocational nursing, and many other areas.

A recently added program is the Associate of Occupational Science with a major in respiratory therapy and surgical technology. The programs at American Career College reflect current practices in the medical field and incorporate new technologies and methods.

Admissions and Enrollment Information

American Career College requires all prospective students to visit a campus before beginning the application process. At the campus, an admissions representative can answer questions about the school, its programs and financial aid packages. An application and a personal interview with an admissions representative are required. The admissions process differs depending on the type of program. A high school diploma or a GED is required for admission also.

Divisions of American Career College

Health Care Division

American Career College only offers programs in health care. Currently, the school has nine such programs. The surgical technology program prepares students for entry-level positions as a surgical technologist. The program emphasizes hands-on training and clinical and theoretical skills. The program is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education, and takes approximately 20 months to complete. Some of the courses required for completion of the degree include concepts in science, medical law and ethics, psychology, pharmacology and operating room fundamentals.
