General Information About Capella University
Capella University, an online university, serves over 28,000 students, 23,000 of whom are graduate students. Within the school's general subject areas, it offers 114 undergraduate and graduate specializations and 15 certificate programs with over 1,050 online courses.
Capella University was established in 1991 by Stephen Shank, a former CEO of Tonka, who believed adults were a population academically underserved by traditional universities. As a result, he created a distance learning environment custom-made for professionals who could not get to a classroom several times per week. Capella University received national accreditation in 1997.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Prospective Capella University students are expected to complete an online application. Capella provides online support if applicants should have any questions or concerns during the process. Applicants are also given an admissions account that they can log into at any time to check the status of their application. Students can also take single courses if they are not interested in following a complete degree program. Students interested in a single course have a separate form to fill out.
