Eastern Michigan University, a public university, is located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The school was founded in 1849 and is comprised of 5 colleges that offer undergraduate and graduate programs in business, health and human services, liberal arts and technology.

Eastern Michigan University General Information

Easter Michigan University (EMU) currently serves nearly 23,000 students, about 18,000 of which are undergraduates. The university mostly offers undergraduate or master's level programs, however the school has doctoral programs in education leadership, technology and psychology.

This 160 year-old institution was originally established as a teacher's college and was the first school of its type established outside of the original 13 colonies. The school was established as a university in 1959 and the campus has grown exponentially since its earlier incarnations.

Admissions and Enrollment Information

Prospective EMU students are encouraged to apply using the school's online form. Once an application is submitted, students will have to send EMU their SAT and ACT scores and high school transcript. EMU has rolling admission, meaning students can apply at any time throughout the year and expect to hear an admission decision promptly. Once a student is accepted, students receive an online account that enables them to begin registering for courses.

College of Business

EMU's College of Business offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting, business administration and computer information systems among others.

College of Arts and Sciences

EMU's College of Arts and Sciences prides itself on introducing students to a modern global community and its concerns. The College offers programs in bilingual studies, philosophy, psychology, music, economics, environmental studies, communications, the natural sciences and religion.

College of Technology

The College of Technology at EMU prepares students for lucrative careers in computer science, electronic engineering, interior design, network and information technology and construction management, among other courses of study. In total, there are 22 undergraduate and 13 graduate level programs of study offered.

College of Education

The College of Education offers undergraduate, graduate and online certification programs in a variety of educational areas. Elementary education, ESL, physical education, mathematics and science education and health education are all offered as potential courses of study.

College of Health and Human Services

EMU's College of Health and Human Services offers comprehensive undergraduate programs in sports medicine, dietetics, health services management and nursing. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the College's advising center before applying to health and human services academic programs.
