Kendall College Admissions and General School Information

Kendall College is situated on the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois. The institution offers associate's and bachelor's degree programs in education, culinary arts, business, psychology and hospitality management.

General Information about Kendall College

Kendall College was founded in 1934 in Evanston, Illinois and remained there for 70 years until its eventual move to downtown Chicago in 2004. Originally Kendall College was developed for the purpose of teaching students general skills to use for any workplace, but has since developed into a 4-year college with four different specialized departments. The college is a subsidiary of Laureate Education, Inc.

The institution has approximately 2,000 undergraduate students pursuing culinary arts, psychology, business, hospitality management or early childhood education. Kendall College offers mostly bachelor's degrees in these fields, but also has associate's degree programs in culinary arts.

Admissions and Enrollment Information

A prospective student wanting to attend Kendall College will first have to complete an application form that can be submitted either online or via mail. Students must also submit a high school transcript showing at least a 2.0 GPA or proof of GED, a personal statement and an application fee. Finally, the university requires that each potential scholar has an interview on site with an enrollment advisor. SAT or ACT scores are not required, but Kendall College highly recommends that students send the scores if they are available.

Schools of Kendall College

School of Culinary Arts

The School of Culinary Arts at Kendall College was the first specialized department at the school. It was established in 1985 and has since been accredited by the American Culinary Federation. This school is the only one of Kendall's four to offer associate's degree programs in addition to bachelor's degree programs, offering three of them alongside the two bachelor's programs. They also offer three certificate programs for students looking to quickly change or advance their careers.

School of Hospitality Management

Kendall College offered a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management following the growing demand for their culinary program. This was changed to a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management in 2005 when the college partnered with the Les Roches School of Hotel Management. When students attend Kendall College to obtain a bachelor's degree in the hospitality management field, they are instructed by the Les Roches School. This partnership has also allowed for the university to open up exchange programs with Spain and Switzerland, as well as allow for international internships.

School of Business

Kendall College's School of Business handles both the Bachelor of Arts in Business and the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology that the institution offers. Business programs have been part of Kendal College's curriculum since 1970, but the official School of Business was not made part of the university until 2007. The Bachelor of Arts in Business has since grown to involve three possible concentrations, those being culinary arts, food service management and general management.

School of Education

The School of Education at Kendall College exists for students looking to enter an early childhood teaching career. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education program both with and without certification options. Students who pursue the certification addition to their degree will not be automatically certified to teach in Illinois, but Kendall College will make a recommendation to the board when a graduate applies for official certification. What's more, students who do not start their bachelor's degree program with the certification option may change to that track later in their school career.
