Located in Milwaukee and its surrounding suburbs, Milwaukee Area Technical College is comprised of four campuses catering to just under 20,000 students. This 2-year public school offers diplomas, certificate programs, associate's degrees and early college entrance for high school seniors.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Students can apply for admission through the MATC website. The college requires academic transcripts from your high school, or proof of GED completion, as well as an application fee. Upon acceptance to the college, students are required to take the AccuPlacer test so they can enroll in courses that are appropriate to their skill level. They are also required to meet with a counselor to develop a course of study and get help with registering for their first semester.
Milwaukee Area Technical College Departments
Business
The Department of Business enrolls approximately 300 students per academic year and offers education and training in several disciplines. Students can earn associate's degrees in accounting, business administration, logistics, marketing, operations management and small business administration. Students can also earn certificates in business management, business technology, marketing communications and supervisory management.
Liberal Arts & Sciences
Approximately 200 students per year enroll in the Liberal Arts & Sciences program at MATC. Students may obtain an associate's degree in liberal arts & science. This degree program requires the student to take courses in English, economics, foreign languages, history, natural sciences and the social sciences. The purpose of the program is to help students develop a well-rounded education to help them pursue studies at the university level.
Culinary & Hospitality
For those students interested in food service, baking, culinary arts or restaurant management, this department offers a variety of diplomas and certificates. Students can earn a diploma in baking or food services. Certificates in advanced pastry baking, food and beverage hospitality and restaurant management are also available. For those hoping to earn an associate's degree, you can major in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts and hospitality management. Approximately 60 students enroll in these programs per year.
Technical
For those seeking an associate's degree in a technology field, this department offers A.A.S. degrees in computer and information sciences, computer security, computer graphics, programming, systems analysis and computer networking. A web master certificate is also available. MATC boasts several modern computer lab facilities. Approximately 100 students enroll in these programs per year.
Industrial
Health Occupations
Students can earn associate's degrees in anesthesiologist assistant, cardiovascular technology, dental hygiene, registered nursing, physical therapy and surgical technology. In addition, certificates in licensed practical nursing, medical assisting, pharmacy assistant and dialysis technician are also available. This is by far the largest department at MATC, with over 400 students enrolled in health occupations programs annually.
