General Information about North Carolina A&T State University

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, more commonly known as North Carolina A&T State University, is the largest publicly funded historically black college in the state. Enrolling more than 10,000 students each year, the university offers 117 undergraduate majors and more than 58 master's degree programs. Doctoral programs are available in electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering; energy and environmental systems; and leadership studies.

Classified as a research university, the school's core research clusters include biotechnology and bio sciences, energy and environment, nanotechnology, public health and information sciences. North Carolina A&T State University is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund and graduates the largest number of African-American psychology majors in the United States.

Admissions and Enrollment Information

North Carolina A&T State University welcomes applications from first-time freshman, transfer, international and graduate students. Undergraduate applicants must submit an official high school transcript with a final GPA of 2.25 or higher, as well as an official ACT or SAT test score with their completed application.

School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences

This school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in such areas as agricultural and biosystems engineering, biotechnology, natural resources management, food microbiology and waste management. With a rich history in innovative research, the school offers focus areas in plant science, human nutrition, food science, animal health and agricultural economics.

College of Arts and Science

Comprised of 13 departments that encompass the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences, this is the largest academic college at North Carolina A&T State University. Accredited degree programs include biology, history, physics, political science, social work and the performing arts.

School of Business and Economics

This school offers undergraduate and graduate programs through four academic departments: economics and finance, management, business education and marketing. Undergraduate programs in accounting and business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Graduate programs include human resources management and business teacher education.

School of Education

Offering both undergraduate and graduate programs, the School of Education is comprised of three academic departments: curriculum and instruction, human performance and leisure studies, and human development and services. The school's teacher education programs are accredited by the North Carolina Department of Instruction and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

College of Engineering

The College of Engineering offers degree programs in 11 engineering fields, including the only architectural engineering and geomatics programs in the state. Engineering students work with professors and peers to conduct research for agencies such as the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Defense and other government agencies. The college is known for being the leading producer of African-American engineers at the bachelor's and doctoral levels.

School of Nursing

The School of Nursing offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) including RN to BSN, LPN to BSN Surgical Technologist, and an accelerated BSN program for individuals with a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field. Programs are approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

School of Technology

This school's fully accredited programs include occupational safety and health, construction management, electronics technology, graphics technology, manufacturing systems and technology education. Programs are offered at both the bachelor's and master's degree levels.

School of Graduate Studies

In conjunction with the other schools and colleges at North Carolina A&T State University, the School of Graduate Studies offers a Master of Science in most fields of study, as well as Master of Arts in English and African American Literature. A Master of Social Work is also available. The graduate school operates as the administration home for all graduate programs at the university.
