About Southeastern Louisiana University
Southeastern Louisiana University currently enrolls more than 15,200 students enrolled, with around 13,900 undergraduates. Around 97% of its students hail from Louisiana. During the mid-1990s, Southeastern Louisiana University was known as the nations' fastest growing university, as the enrollment jumped by more than 5,000 students from 1990 to 1997.
Founded in 1925 as a junior college in a wing of a local high school building, the campus moved to its current location in 1928 and became known as Southeastern Louisiana University. Today the school boasts more than 65 undergraduate and graduate degrees, with all its graduate programs and 97% of its undergraduate programs have national accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Students wishing to attend Southeastern Louisiana University must adhere to specific admissions requirements to be considered for enrollment. Freshmen students or transfer students with fewer than 12 hours of credits must include high school transcripts and ACT scores. All students must include proof of immunization for mumps, measles, rubella, meningitis and tetanus diphtheria. Potential students should check when admissions deadlines occur; if they miss the spring, summer or fall admission due date, they could face a $50 fine added on to the application fee.
Colleges of Southeastern Louisiana University
College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences contains eight separate departments, led by more than 170 full-time and almost 100 part-time faculty members. The college provides much of the school's general education curriculum. Degree programs within the college include organizational communication, political science and criminal justice.
College of Business
With the most bachelor's degrees of any college at Southeastern Louisiana University, with around 550 annually, the most popular degrees within this school are business administration and management. Students enrolled in business classes may choose to reside in the exclusive College of Business dorm. Southeastern Louisiana University's Executive MBA program is nationally recognized by Business Week as one of the top programs in the southern states.
College of Education and Human Development
Home to the lone doctoral program in education leadership, the College of Education and Human Development is divided into three separate departments: educational leadership and technology; counseling and human development; and teaching and learning. Those students seeking a teaching degree for elementary or secondary schools also are enrolled in this college.
College of Nursing and Health Sciences
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences has more than 2,500 students studying for majors, as well as partnerships with more than 100 agencies allowing students to practice outside the classroom. Graduate programs include Master of Science degrees in Health and Kinesiology, Nursing and Communication Sciences.
College of Science and Technology
The College of Science and Technology is comprised of four academic departments, including computer science and industrial technology, chemistry and physics, mathematics and biological sciences. The graduate programs are led by faculty members who each have their own area of interest and students can strive for the Coastal Restoration & Enhancement through Science and Technology (CREST) program, which also offers monetary rewards. Students construct science- or technology-based projects through the CREST program to discover how it can help habitat restoration and ecosystems.
