Troy University's main campus is in Troy, Alabama, but there are more than 60 other campuses located across the nation and internationally. Students can pursue associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in the areas of business, communication and fine arts, education, arts and sciences and health and human services.
General Information About Troy University
Founded in 1887 as the Troy State Normal School for training teachers, Troy University's main campus is located in Troy, Alabama. However, Troy University has grown to include more than 60 other campuses in 18 states and 11 nations. Distance learning options are available.
Nearly 30,000 students were enrolled at Troy University in 2008, pursing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the areas of education, arts and sciences, , communication and fine arts, business and health and human services. Socially, Troy University has many student organizations, Division 1 athletics and active music and theater programs to offer.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Troy University welcomes full-time and part-time students to take part in a variety of classroom formats, including traditional day classes, night and weekend classes and online learning. Prospective students must submit applications for admission along with nonrefundable application fees, recent high school transcripts and requested test scores. Online applications are available, as well as downloadable versions to print and mail. Applicants are encouraged to apply well in advance to his/her proposed entrance date.
Troy University Academic Departments
College of Arts and Sciences
The Troy University College of Arts and Sciences is concerned with the values of creativity, inquiry and understanding. Nine different units make up the College of Arts and Sciences, including aerospace studies, chemistry, English and political science. A wide variety of minors and bachelor degree programs are available, as well as master's degree programs in computer science, criminal justice, international relations, public administration and environmental and biological sciences.
College of Communication and Fine Arts
The Troy University College of Communication and Fine Arts is comprised of five different units, which provide instruction and practical training in journalism, mass communication, music, communication studies, theater and visual arts. A wide variety of associate's and bachelor's degrees are offered, as well as a Master of Science degree in conducting.
College of Education
For over 100 years, the Troy University College of Education has offered programs designed to prepare students for careers in education, counseling and administration. A wide variety of undergraduate degrees are offered at Troy, including psychology, elementary education, secondary education and interdisciplinary education. Master's degree programs include education, adult education, counseling and psychology and postsecondary education locations of concentrations. Certificate programs are also offered for professional educator and education specialist.
College of Health and Human Services
Established in 1994, the College of Health and Human Services is one of the newest academic departments at Troy University. The College of Health and Human Services is divided into six different units, which offer Bachelor's programs, including athletic training, nursing, social work and physical education. Master's degree programs in nursing and sports and fitness management are also offered.
Sorrell College of Business
The Sorrell College of Business is comprised of four different departments, including business programs, graduate business programs, risk management and insurance and the Troy University School of Accountancy. A Master of Science in Management, Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Human Resource Management and Executive MBA are also offered.
