University of Central Oklahoma Admissions and School Information
The University of Central Oklahoma is a 4-year public educational institution located in Edmond. The school offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas including design, accounting, computer science, mass communication and finance.
General Information about the University of Central Oklahoma
Established in 1890, the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) has a total student population of 15,724 and is the third largest university in the state. The university is also the oldest institution of higher learning in Oklahoma. Currently UCO is the only university in the state to offer undergraduate degrees in areas of legal studies, funeral services, photojournalism and biomedical engineering.
The university's cheerleading squad is nationally recognized and won national titles in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The 210-acre campus is also an official Paralympic training site.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Prospective students are encouraged to submit the online application form. In addition to this application, students must send their ACT or SAT scores, high school transcripts and non-refundable application fees. Transfer students must submit transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Students with the best chances of being accepted should have a 2.7 or higher GPA and be in the upper 50% of their high school class.

College of Liberal Arts
The College of Liberal Arts is comprised of seven departments. Some of these departments include English, history, modern languages, political science and the humanities. Recently the College of Liberal Arts opened a Confucius Classroom dedicated to learning about Chinese culture. The classroom was opened in conjunction with the university's Confucius Institute.
College of Business Administration
The College of Business Administration has degree programs in accounting, marketing, finance, information systems and many other areas. The college also has an MBA program that can be completed in one year and is comprised of seven courses, all of which are offered at night.
College of Mathematics and Science
Biology, computer science, nursing and chemistry are some of the majors that students can choose from the College of Mathematics and Science. The American Institute of Physics ranked the University of Central Oklahoma engineering and physics department in the top 20 in the United States. Currently, the Department of Engineering and Physics offers undergraduate degrees in engineering physics, science education and biomedical engineering. A Master of Science in Engineering Physics is also offered.
College of Education and Professional Studies
The College of Education and Professional Studies has 27 undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs in areas such as psychology, elementary education, industrial safety, reading and special education. The teacher programs at UCO are accredited by the National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Education. All of the undergraduate teacher education programs lead to teacher certification. Teacher certification exams must be completed in order to receive an Oklahoma license.
College of Arts, Media and Design
The College of Arts, Media and Design offers degree programs in areas of art, music and design. Currently the Department of Art offers BFA degrees in studio art, art education and art history. The Department of Design offers BFA degrees in graphic design and interior design. An MFA program in design is also offered by the department. The School of Music has undergraduate degree programs in vocal performance, instrumental performance, musical theatre and vocal and piano performance. A graduate program in jazz studies is available as well.
