West Virginia University is a public educational institution and was founded in 1867. West Virginia University in Morgantown has an undergraduate student population of 21,145. Unfortunately, Marshall University will be forever remembered for the tragic 1970 airplane crash that resulted in the loss of 37 Marshall University football players. Initially, Fairmont State was a training ground for teachers, now it has grown to incorporate many more areas of study. This small private university originally began as a community college. Shepherd University
