Georgia Perimeter College's main campus is located in Decatur, with secondary locations in Clarkston, Dunwoody, Newton and Alpharetta. The College offers associate, career and technical degree programs in business, social sciences, engineering, humanities and arts.
General Information about Georgia Perimeter College
Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) was founded in 1964 by the DeKalb County citizens and Board of Education. The college currently has five campuses throughout metro Atlanta, as well as classes at the Roswell High School. GPC also features dual program in collaboration with the Georgia Piedmont Technical College.
Georgia Perimeter College is host to over 24,000 students including nontraditional and international students. The college's online program is the largest in state, with the most courses and a student enrollment of over 5,000.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Georgia Perimeter Colleges accepts most students, including high school graduates, transfer, non-traditional and international students, through their guaranteed admission policy. The requirements vary based on student status but prospective students will need high school or college transcripts, as well as a completed application and non-refundable application fee. In addition, international students will require a proof of immigrant or non-immigrant status and English language proficiency.
Areas of Study at Georgia Perimeter College
Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering
The Associate in Sciences degree program is offered for mathematics, computer science and engineering. This program is designed as a transfer program for students planning on attending a 4-year college or university. Students are required to complete 62-64 credits; 18 of those credits are directly related to your program of study.
Business
The Georgia Perimeter College's business department features an associate transfer degree program in business administration. The program provides students with the core business fundamentals. The business degree program is offered at all the Georgia Perimeter College campuses and online.
Social Sciences
GPC's social sciences offer transfer programs for majors such as geography, history, political science, psychology, teacher education, anthropology and sociology. The teacher education degree programs are offered for elementary education, middle school, secondary, special and physical education. The social sciences programs culminate in Associate of Science or Associate of Art degree.
Fine Arts
The fine arts at Georgia Perimeter College feature programs for visual arts, music and theatre. The visual arts program provides study abroad programs, for students to experience art in varied cultures. The theatre program offers practical education for performers and technicians through theatrical productions.
Humanities
The Georgia Perimeter College's humanities department is the most diverse and largest department within the college. Programs include literature, journalism, foreign languages, communication, film, religion, humanities and philosophy. Humanities students at Georgia Perimeter College will receive an Associate of Arts Degree.
Science
Georgia Perimeter College's science areas of study cover astronomy, biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, integrated science and physics. The science degree programs feature an Associates of Arts degree. Higher math classes and a foreign language are required.
Health Sciences
In 2008, Georgia Perimeter College added a transferable associate degree programs in Health Sciences. The transfer program concentrations include diagnostic medical sonography, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy, health information administration, medical technology and respiratory therapy. The career and technical degree programs offered for health sciences include dental hygiene, nursing and radiologic technology.
